Sorry....

To all my faithful readers: I have been on an extended vacation (far from the South End) and somehow fried my computer upon my return. As soon as I am back online (and not on a friend's computer) I will add some new posts. Its been weeks since I've seen a pair of Uggs or heard the clip clop of entitled people on cobblestone.

In the meantime, won't someone open up a dog-rolfing clinic or an heirloom dandelion store? I could use some material....

Oh Lord!!!! I think this is one of the seven signs of the Apocalypse, isn't it?!?!?!

That'll teach ME to go away for more than a couple days. I literally ran to a friend's computer to respond to this once I had been tipped off to your comment.

Expect a posting on this once computer "says yes."

Thank you, JHB!!

This is a great blog. So this sentiment about the evolving South End is a shared opinion and not just me.

I need to share what happened the weekend before last. I had a friend in town (who hadn't been to Boston in 10 years and was amazed at how the SE had changed) and we sat outside at Garden of Eden, enjoying the sun and having a beer on a nice Saturday afternoon. Straight folks at the table next to us. Up walks a female friend of theirs with here designer stroller, pulls out a baby, and says "This is Myles, I had him on MONDAY." She was parading him around like a new handbag and we looked at each other like, are you really supposed to have your baby out and about less than a week after it is born?? Of course she weighed about 90 lbs and told her friends "no one even knew i was pregnant." No lie.

Fast forward to the next day, eating brunch outside at Claremont Cafe (or whatever they call is these days, I can't keep up) and here she comes again with her husband and her mother and father. Parading that baby around in the hot sun with not a care in the world. Hope that kid doesn't get skin cancer one day.

The funniest part of the Sunday encounter was that her motor mouth mother (who also weighed about 80 lbs and ate like a sparrow) monopolized the conversation, talking over everyone at the table who tried to get a word in edgewise. In an hour, her poor husband was only able to utter "we are in the sun" and "can we have some more water and coffee please."

Awesome!! I'll bet in the long run the handbag you mentioned will have had more parental contact and will be given preferential treatment over the baby. Trends in accessories come and go.

What an interesting immune system that baby will have!! Imagine that poor mom having been all cooped up for, like, a week having a baby and not being able to partake in the South End vibrant dining scene (or, "SEVDS").

I love your blog!

I am a native South Ender born and raised and my folks never made distinctions between Joe & Jane, or Joe & Joe, or Jane & Jane. It was all just a big soupe pistou.

Just be a good neighbor they said. And take your trash out on trash day - not the day before or the afternoon after....

My sister and I laugh that pretty soon they are going to gate off Washington, Tremont, and Columbus at Mass Ave and at Berkeley one of these days! Although maybe I cast the net a little too wide for some.

Eh, now I live on the OTHER side of Mass Ave, with lovely views of the SE.
